Jersey Boys the Broadway Musical
by eventrev on Feb.12, 2010, under Jersey Boys
An American Broadway documentary, Jersey Boys is based on the swirls of the lives of one of the most successful rock n roll groups of the 1960s. This group is known as the Four Seasons. The musical documentary first premiered on Broadway in America in 2005 in La Jolla Play House, California and since then it has worn four Tony Awards, Best Actor who was John Loyd Young and Best Featured actor as Christine Hoff. In total, they are the winners of 21 different awards worldwide.
The actor John Young Loyd who impersonates the lead singer of the 1960s band Four Seasons Frankie Vallie played the leading role. In the musical, the lead singer was once under the spotlight for his intriguing music talent but his career took a back turn. Frankie Vallie is thus on an upward steep to regain his stardom through one song that he utterly believes will take him back to the days when life was good, when he was a celebrity.
It is a rags-to-riches tale that excelled much in the year that it premiered give than that same year there was a myriad of musicals that were clichéd and that flopped on Broadway. The story goes that after no radio would play their song; the Italian-American quartet led by Frankie Valli took the song to the people through a live concert. Christian Hoff as Tommy Devitto, Daniel Reichard as Bob Gaudio, and J. Robert Spencer as Nick Massi play other members of the band. The musicals director is Dus Mcannuff. The band members grew up in a tough neighborhood of New Jersey where they used to get together to rehearse. In their time, they were outstandingly different and together they formed what is known as the Doo Wop genre.
Bob Gaudio who was the pianist is like the founder of the band that was made up of regular blue color guys. The guys finally get their success but the domestic life they have is not smooth sailing because of the exposure to girls and raging fans. The made millions out of the singles they produced as a band. It is the typical American dream story that leaves one with a feeling of nostalgia, hope but with some amount of cynicism.
In the Broadway music documentary itself the songs are intriguingly interwoven in the act which makes it a great one to watch and will be even welcomed by those who do not like musicals. They wrote their own songs and sold 175 million records worldwide before they were thirty years. It is said that more than 4 million people have watched the musical documentary on Broadway and it is amongst the most watched shows as theaters in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
Songs that are featured in the musical documentary include the popular begging cannot take my eyes off you, oh what a night, walk like a man, bye by baby, sherry and big girls do not cry. The show may inappropriate for younger children despite its story line. It runs for about 1 hour and 30 minutes without the commercials. Tickets for the legendary band were always hard to be found.
