About the Utah Jazz

by eventrev on Feb.23, 2010, under NBA

The Utah Jazz is a team of professional basketball players that was formed in 1974; it took them 10 years before they appeared in the Playoffs. They are members of the Western conference of the NBA and they play in the Western division. When it started, it was called the New Orleans Jazz and it was based in Louisiana where it played for the first five seasons up to 1979 when it shifted to Utah. However, from the time they managed to appear in the first play offs, they always featured until 1994. It was in the time of Coach Frank Leyden that they managed to enter the play offs after he organized a team of young and energetic players.

Karl Malone and John Stockton franchised the team and it managed to get a new coach, Jerry Sloan in 1998. Like a Great coach, he groomed the team slowly by slowly and by the time the team was fully grown, it managed to get to the finals of the NBA league where they lost both times to a strong team led by Michael Jordan, Chicago bulls. The team’s colors are ice blue, silver, navy blue, white, and purple. The two franchise players who had managed to get the team to the finals moved on in 2003 and the team performance deteriorated a bit. This was after they had featured in many play offs but they did not manage to clinch any titles.

In 2003, Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer featured in the team and they formed a strong offensive force. The team has a record of winning the conference cups for two consecutive years in 1997 and 1998. They have also won the divisional titles 8 times beginning from 1984 and the latest being in 2008. The club is owned by the estate of Larry H miller who is now deceased but the manager Kevin O Connor and the Head coach Jerry Sloan have managed to keep the team afloat by ensuring that it works towards getting the league championships. The club has a lot of support in Utah and its performance is still top since it has a record of wins in its last few matches. Some of the clubs greatest rivals are the Houston rockets who have been their close competitors ever since the early 80s. In the nineties when the club was in tiptop shape, they have the greatest rivals in the champions the Chicago bulls and lately some of the rivals have been the Lakers.

In 2006, also named as the William and Boozer era, the team tried to rebuild and the Houston rockets were on their necks for the first six rounds but they managed to win in the seventh round. The players tried to avoid injury to keep afloat but one of the clutch shooters got an injury that cost them a number of losses. Deron and Boozer were selected for the basketball Olympics teams and they have continued to display great talent all along.
